The problem
The school restaurant chef saw a need in making sure that more of the students wanted to eat more of the school meals.
The solution we used
They have implemented several initiatives that together have contributed to the school today being the school in Umeå municipality where the largest proportion of students eat school meals every day. In this, tasting spoons is one of their successful initiatives.
Implementation
For each meal, the kitchen staff presents a jar of tasting spoons in each serving line. The students who have a need to taste the food before helping themselves to it, can take a spoonful of the food in the serving line, taste and then throw the spoon into a dish-bucket.
Before this initiative, students skipped the dish that was new or that they were skeptical about, while today after the introduction of the spoon, it often gives a good outcome when they dare to taste and the students help themselves to take a portion on the plate.
