The problem
Our school buys and stores food for the preparation of meals as part of the practical training of students in the field of Nutrition Assistant and Diploma Nutrition Therapist. Very often food and meals are stored poorly by pupils and students and subsequently perish prematurely. This leads to unnecessary food waste.
The solution we used
Our project aims to set appropriate rules and recommendations for proper food storage in our training kitchens. At the same time, we believe that this project can inspire other schools with practical teaching in their kitchens and individual pupils and students to store food appropriately in the home environment.
Implementation
We have created educational materials targeted at pupils and students of our school, which we have placed in the classrooms of practical teaching.
The project is mainly aimed at pupils and students of the first year, who lack theoretical knowledge about food and proper storage.
We have divided the information on food storage into three groups. The first group is food storage in the pantry, the second group is food storage in the fridge and the third group is food storage in the freezer. The storage recommendations are adapted to our training kitchen environment. The aim of the educational material is to provide validated information to avoid waste.
