The problem

Nowadays there is a growing interest in healthy lifestyles and sustainable products. However, many people are not aware of the environmental and health impact of conventional food. This also applies to teas and spice blends, some of which may contain undesirable substances and contribute to air pollution.

The solution we used

Our school has decided to introduce students to the production of organic teas and spice mixes and the principles of sustainable farming. 

Implementation

We organized a field trip to Sonnentor, a renowned company specializing in the production of high-quality organic products. This excursion included two classes from our school and took place at Sonnentor's headquarters in Čejkovice.

During our visit, students were given a comprehensive tour of Sonnentor's facilities, where they gained insightful knowledge about the entire process of producing organic teas and spice blends. This journey covered every stage, from the cultivation of herbs and spices to their final packaging. The students were particularly impressed by Sonnentor's innovative use of cutting-edge technology. However, they also appreciated the company's strong emphasis on manual craftsmanship and its commitment to environmental sustainability.

We learned that Sonnentor is a family-owned business dedicated to fostering strong, positive relationships with its growers and suppliers. The students had the unique opportunity to sample a variety of delicious organic teas and spice mixtures, some of which they brought back to share with their families.

The field trip concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where students had the chance to delve deeper into Sonnentor’s operations and its principles of sustainable farming. The company’s focus on environmental stewardship and high-quality products left a lasting impression on everyone.

Moreover, the syrups we sampled during the tour were later used to flavor beverages at our school garden festival, highlighting the importance of sustainable practices and raising awareness about Sonnentor’s commitment to ecological management.

As a follow-up activity, students applied their newfound knowledge and inspiration to write motivational letters specifically addressed to Sonnentor. This exercise allowed them to reflect on their experiences and express their appreciation for the company’s dedication to sustainability and quality.

This field trip not only enriched the students' understanding of sustainable practices but also inspired them to consider the broader impacts of responsible business operations.
