The problem

In our view, there is a significant lack of awareness among students regarding organic farming and animal husbandry. Despite the presence of numerous organic farms and sustainable food production enterprises in our area, their existence remains largely unknown to the community. We have resolved to address and rectify this gap in knowledge.

The solution we used

We decided to address this issue by showcasing the operation of aquaponic and hydroponic farms through a comprehensive report and a series of social media posts.

Our report was developed in collaboration with the aquaponic farm in Hlučín near Ostrava. During our research, we discovered that aquaponic systems function by integrating fish farming with plant cultivation. In these systems, fish are fed, and their waste is transformed into a concentrated, nitrified form, which is then circulated into the plant-growing system. The plants utilize these nutrients for their growth and development, creating a symbiotic relationship between the fish and the plants.

Implementation

Initially, we conducted thorough research on hydroponics. From this research, we created informative leaflets about hydroponic farming, which we subsequently shared across various social media platforms.

Following this, we visited an aquaponic farm. The students then produced a detailed report highlighting the organic principles, benefits, and quality of the products derived from this method.

Our primary goal is to educate and raise awareness about more environmentally sustainable approaches to plant cultivation and animal husbandry. By doing so, we aim to promote practices that are not only beneficial for the environment but also enhance the quality and sustainability of agricultural products.
