Don't waste food

Food waste in our school canteen - this was the initial signal for our project. Together with 5th grade students we discussed what would help eliminate the amount of wasted (unfinished) lunches in the school cafeteria, as every day we witnessed a lot of wasted, often untouched lunches thrown away by children.

The students divided into groups and came up with ways and tips on how to prevent or at least mitigate the problem. All the pupils in our class got involved and so there was no shortage of ideas.

The output of the project was 2 presentations with tips and a quiz for classmates and 2 skits (in the framework of drama education we rehearsed 2 "parody" skits from a normal day in the school canteen).

The first skit was a bad example/the second a correct one. All this together with the presentation filled one lesson, when we gradually invited all the surrounding classes, classmates from other grades of the first grade to our performance. The students moderated the project themselves, presented it...

But our project was such a success that even the classes of the second grade wanted to see it, including the school administration. This is how we ended up presenting our project across the whole school. I must say that the children were so enthusiastic about it that they "watched" each other during lunchtime, did not throw away food unnecessarily and thus encouraged the other diners.
