The problem
How can we raise students' awareness of sustainable nutrition while improving their experience of food origins? The project aims to help raise awareness of the ecological footprint of food. The students should understand how their diet influences the climate.
The solution we used
By implementing the “Climate-Friendly Breakfast” project, students will learn how their diet influences the climate and how they can make more conscious decisions. At the same time, they should experience the origins of food up close by using herbs and sometimes berries from the in-house raised beds for their breakfast.
Implementation
Procurement of food: The students buy food themselves, paying attention to minimal packaging and preferring seasonal, organic and regional products. Optionally, the food can also be purchased together at markets or supermarkets.
Breakfast preparation: At breakfast, the purchased food is freshly processed. The importance of sustainability and climate protection will be discussed.
Use raised beds: The herbs and berries planted on the terrace are harvested and integrated into breakfast. This enables the students to experience the origins of the food up close. Some of the raised beds were made in-house in an upcycling workshop.
Formation of eating habits: By having breakfast together and discussing sustainable nutrition, students should be more conscious about their diet in the long term.
